Happy National S’mores Day! Could there be a better holiday? Okay, there maybe others just as fabulous. But summer really is the perfect time to honor this timeless treasure isn’t it? While I can’t pinpoint my first s’more eating experience, I can rememer countless summer nights growing up that were spent by the campfire roasting marsmallows, and smushing it between some Hershey’s chocolate and graham cracker squares and biting into one of the best creations ever. The. Best. It’s definitely plays a big part in so many of my favorite family memories. We did a lot of camping.
And now as a mom, I’ve passed the love for this special treat on to my kids. They’re hooked to say the least. And though nothing can replace the standard and perfect way of eating the campfire classic, today I want to offer you a fun take on it with this Sea Salt Banana S’mores Milkshake.
It’s such a delicious treat on this warm August day and we didn’t even need to go camping or make a fire. Just the few staple ingredients like graham crackers, marshmallows and some Hershey’s chocolate for nostalgia and garnish, then a couple additions like chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, some frozen banana and sea salt, because why not and more yum, and you’re set. Blend it up, serve it up and indulge.
Now for some important tips, the key with this shake is really in the toasted marshmallows. Not only do you top the milkshake with them, but you also blend some up inside, for that awesome toasted flavor throughout. This takes it to the next level and really makes you feel like this is indeed a shake worthy of the title. And don’t skip the grahams, you just need it. The chocolate sauce can be homemade or store bought. I used store bought Hersheys to keep with the theme and for that Americana feel. In fact, I used everything store-bought to keep it easy as possible and so absolutely anyone can make these.
Now, I feel like there are two camps of people when it comes to marshmallow roasting….those (like me) who like it REALLY toasted, like pretty much burnt. And then those who stand over the fire carefully and precisely making sure the outside gets nice and golden brown all around, but not burnt in the least. If you’re in the latter category, I respect you, but have to say you’re going to have to let it roast a little past your comfort zone on this one. You just gotta. For the flavor and for it to incorporate into the shake more easily. Not saying you have to torch it, but do get it past golden.
Then, blend that yumminess with some milk, vanilla ice cream, a little frozen banana, crumbled grahams and give it a chocolate swirl with a sea salt finish. Top it off with a little more extra toasted marshy’s, a little more graham and a little chocolate nibble. Enjoy. And repeat whenever the urge strikes. I won’t judge you if it’s not even summer. Now go get your Banana S’mores Milkshake on.
