Ok, so my attempt at sending the last bit of summer recipes before Autumn began failed miserably. I should say catastrophically. Tall bottle of beer next to the laptop is not a good idea. I repeat. Not. A. Good. Idea. It wasn’t my idea or my beer but it was my hand that knocked it over. Funny how life works sometimes. The whole thing didn’t even spill. But it was just enough to render it useless. It wouldn’t even turn on anymore. It went kaput. It wasn’t the best week. And googling all possible scenarios while it was at the Apple doctor, is also not the best idea. You’ll drive yourself mad. But thanks to the computer wizards we took it to, it is back up and running. And all beverages are far, far away.
But speaking of beverages, here’s one you might want to keep close, but again, away from any delicate technology. If there’s even the faintest of summer weather still lingering in your area, this Bourbon Peach & Basil Sangria will bid the perfect farewell to the warmer days of endless outdoor get togethers when an ice cold cocktail almost always fits the bill. This sangria is no exception. It’s light and refreshing and not overly sweet. And if you wanted to keep with the seasons, it’s versatile enough that you could swap the peach nectar for apple cider perhaps, lemon for lime, and autumn fruit such as apples, pears, or grapes for a Fall sangria. A few sprigs of rosemary would be a perfect replacement for the basil. The fact that it’s super quick to put together, just needing an hour or so for the flavors to mesh, is a bonus too.
Bourbon Peach & Basil Sangria
A light and refreshing drink perfect for your next warm weather get together.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle dry white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc
- 1 1/2 cups peach nectar
- 1/2 cup Bourbon (more if desired)
- 1 lime, divided in half
- 1 bunch basil leaves, slightly torn
- 1 large peach, thinly sliced
- 1 basket strawberries, quartered
Instructions
-
In a large pitcher, combine the wine, bourbon, and peach nectar.
-
Juice half of the lime into the pitcher. Thinly slice the remaining half.
-
Add the basil leaves to the pitcher and muddle a bit.
-
Add the peach slices, strawberries, and lime to the pitcher, reserving a bit of the fruit for each glass. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
-
Serve over ice and add a little more fruit to each glass.
Recipe Notes
*More peach nectar can be added if you want it sweeter or more bourbon for a stronger sangria.
*It can be served right away, though a little time for all the flavors to mingle is best.
