Turmeric & Spinach C-Booster

It’s Saturday and for us that usually means more treats, more bread, or just anything a little more decadent. But in between those less good-for-you moments, I like to make sure we’re all getting in our vitamins and nutrients. Enter this Turmeric & Spinach C Booster. It’s delicous, refreshing and packs a nice nutricious punch. And just in case you need more proof that this is indeed yummy, the kids gave it two thumbs up and my littlest did her happy smoothie dance.

Smoothies are so easy to make and everyone probably has their favorite go-to method or ingredients already, but just in case you haven’t tried this combo before, I thought I’d pass it on. This one is just as straight forward as the rest and so quick to put together.

And when it come to making any kind of smoothie, there are just two things I always like to ensure I include. One, that at least one or two of the ingredients are frozen, the banana in particular. This really helps in perfect texture and creaminess. And second, that there’s something in there my two little ones aren’t normally excited to eat or straight up refuse. In this case, the spinach, which I almost always include in our smoothies. Because they’re happy to drink it even knowing what’s in there. Go figure. And keeping the fresh leaves in the freezer means they never go to waste and are ready for yummy smoothies like this.

Do give this refreshing and healthy treat a try. I hope you’ll like it just as much as we do.

Turmeric & Spinach C-Booster

Prep Time 10 minutes
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain kefir
  • 4 oranges, peeled & seeds removed
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 1/2 cups packed frozen spinach
  • 1/2-1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 4-5 ice cubes (or more as needed)

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients (start with 1/2 tsp turmeric) to a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Taste and if desired add the rest of the turmeric. Add more ice cubes for a thicker consistency.

  2. Divide between 3-4 glasses and enjoy.

Recipe Notes

*If you don’t have Kefir, you can replace with 3/4 cup of plain yogurt and 1/4 milk or water.

*Frozen pineapple or mango would be great additions.

*Start with 1/2 a teaspoon of the turmeric, taste and then add more if desired.  If you’re not used to the flavor it can be a little overpowering depending on the brand and freshness.

Loved being introduced to Kefir in my shakes with this easy recipe. I’ve always used protein powder or fage, but this was a welcome change. The tumeric was a bit strong for our tastes, so I’d decrease that next time and increase by one orange or banana or both. I used Whole Foods 365 Organic Turmeric, maybe a different version might be better tasting.

    1. Thanks for trying this! Kefir is always great in a smooothie. And thanks for the feedback. I’ll be sure to include a little note in the recipe to add the turmeric a bit at a time.
